Your Journey

From your first consultation to your ongoing monthly care, here is what your journey at The Body Composition Clinic looks like — step by step.

Your Care, Step By Step

Before You Book

BCC is a clinician-led weight management service. Every patient is individually assessed before any treatment decision is made. Booking a consultation is the first step — it is not a commitment to treatment, and treatment is not guaranteed at this stage.

To be eligible, you will generally need a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above with a qualifying weight-related health condition. Your prescriber will confirm your eligibility at your initial consultation based on your full clinical picture.

Booking Your Consultation

When you book, you’ll choose between Initial Consultation or Initial Consultation + Investigation, depending on whether you’re providing your own recent blood test results or would like us to arrange your first blood test for you. You’ll be asked to pay the applicable fee and complete an intake form covering your medical history, current medications, and health goals.

Please complete your intake form in full and submit it before your appointment — your prescriber reviews it in advance, and an incomplete form will limit the time available for your clinical assessment.

You will also be asked to upload a photo of your ID at the time of booking. This is a regulatory requirement and must be completed before your appointment can proceed.

Preparing Your Blood Tests

Your blood test path was confirmed when you booked:

  • If you chose Initial Consultation + Investigation, we’ll arrange your test for you at a local collection point. You’ll receive a booking link and can choose a convenient time — this is the one point in your first consultation stage where you may need to leave home.
  • If you chose Initial Consultation with your own results, you’ll need to upload your official lab report before your appointment. It must be dated within 4 weeks and cover all required markers — see “What blood tests are required?” in our Frequently Asked Questions if you haven’t already checked this before booking.

Either way, your results must be reviewed by your prescriber before your consultation can proceed.

Please don’t leave this to the last minute. Results need to be available before your consultation date. If they’re not ready in time, your appointment may need to be rescheduled.

Your Initial Consultation

Your initial consultation is a video call with your prescriber, lasting approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Your prescriber will review your intake form, blood results, and medical history, assess your eligibility for treatment, and discuss your options with you. Your prescriber will be honest with you about whether treatment is appropriate for your situation. If you are not eligible, they will explain why and discuss what other options may be available to you.

Please join your consultation from a private, quiet space where you will not be overheard or interrupted.

Starting Treatment

If your prescriber determines that treatment is appropriate and you wish to proceed, you’ll be sent your consent form to read and sign. Please read it carefully — it contains important information about your treatment, the medicines involved, and your responsibilities as a patient.

Alongside your consent form, you’ll be asked to complete two further submissions before your first prescription can be issued:

  • Your submission form — including your blood pressure readings and, if applicable, your blood glucose readings.
  • Your media upload — a short weight video, and if you are a woman of childbearing potential, a photo of a negative home pregnancy test. You’ll need to source this first test strip yourself; from your first delivery onwards, strips are provided as part of your ongoing care.

If you think you may need any consumables — such as a sharps bin — ahead of starting treatment, mention this to your prescriber, who can arrange this for you.

Once your consent form, submission, and media upload have all been reviewed, your first prescription is issued and your medication is arranged for delivery, discreetly, to your home address — typically within one to two working days.

Your Monthly Consultations

From the point of treatment initiation, you will have a monthly video consultation with your prescriber. Before each consultation, you are required to submit your monitoring evidence — this includes your weight video, blood pressure readings, and pregnancy test photo if applicable.

Submitting your evidence on time is not optional — it is part of your care. Your prescriber reviews everything before your consultation and uses it to assess your progress, monitor your safety, and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment. If your submissions are incomplete or late, your prescription cannot be issued until everything is reviewed.

Your monthly consultation is your opportunity to discuss how you are feeling, raise any concerns, and ask questions. You do not need to wait for your monthly consultation if you have a concern — contact your prescriber at any time at leadprescriber@bodycompositionclinic.co.uk.

Your Quarterly Blood Tests

Every three months, we arrange a blood test at a local collection point. You will receive a booking link, choose a location near you, and attend at a time that suits you. The appointment takes around 20 minutes.

Your results are sent directly to your prescriber and to you. Your prescriber reviews them before your next monthly consultation. Quarterly blood tests are part of your ongoing care — there is no additional cost.

If your blood test results flag anything that needs attention, your prescriber will contact you promptly — you do not have to wait for your scheduled consultation.

Pregnancy Safety

The medicines prescribed at The Body Composition Clinic are contraindicated in pregnancy. This means they must not be taken during pregnancy under any circumstances. This page explains what that means for you and what we require throughout your treatment.

Why Pregnancy Safety Matters

The prescription medicines used in weight management must not be taken during pregnancy. The safety of these medicines in pregnant patients has not been established, and based on what is known, the risk to a developing baby cannot be ruled out. This is not a precautionary restriction — it is a firm clinical requirement.

For this reason, pregnancy prevention is a non-negotiable part of your treatment at BCC, and monthly pregnancy testing is a core monitoring requirement for all female patients of childbearing potential.

Contraception Requirements

If you are a female of childbearing potential, you are required to use effective contraception throughout your treatment at BCC. Your prescriber will discuss this with you at your initial consultation. If you are unsure whether your current method of contraception is considered effective for these purposes, ask your prescriber or your GP.

Monthly Pregnancy Testing

Before every prescription is issued, female patients of childbearing potential are required to submit a negative home pregnancy test result. This is not optional — your prescription cannot be issued without it.

For your first pregnancy test, required before treatment begins, you’ll need to source your own strip. From that point onwards, test strips are provided as a consumable as part of your care — talk to your prescriber if you need more.

  • Take your test shortly before your monthly submission deadline and upload a clear photo of the result via your upload link.
  • A negative result must be visible and legible. If your prescriber cannot read the result clearly, you will be asked to retest.

If You Become Pregnant During Treatment

If you become pregnant, or think you might be pregnant, during your treatment at BCC — stop your medication immediately and contact your prescriber and your GP on the same day. Do not wait for your next scheduled consultation.

IMPORTANT — ACT IMMEDIATELY

Stop your medication immediately and contact leadprescriber@bodycompositionclinic.co.uk and your GP on the same day if you become pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant.

Your prescriber will advise you on next steps. You should also inform your GP and, if relevant, your midwife or obstetric team that you were taking a prescription weight management medicine, and when you stopped.

Planning a Pregnancy

If you are planning a pregnancy, you must inform your prescriber in advance. Treatment needs to be stopped a defined period before trying to conceive — the required timeframe varies by medicine, and your prescriber will advise you based on your specific treatment. Do not attempt to conceive while still taking your medication.

For full clinical detail on pregnancy safety during your treatment, refer to the Pregnancy Safety document sent to you at the start of your care, or contact your prescriber directly.

Your Rights

As a patient at The Body Composition Clinic, you have a number of rights that we are committed to upholding. This section sets out what those rights are and how to exercise them.

The Right to Withdraw from Treatment

You can stop treatment at any time without giving a reason. Contact your prescriber at leadprescriber@bodycompositionclinic.co.uk to request discontinuation. See our Refund Policy for information on how payments are handled if you withdraw from treatment.

The Right to Ask Questions

You have the right to ask questions about your treatment at any stage — before, during, and after. Your prescriber is there to answer them. No question is too small, and you should never feel rushed or dismissed during a consultation.

For clinical questions between consultations, contact your prescriber at leadprescriber@bodycompositionclinic.co.uk. For general enquiries, contact us at bookings@bodycompositionclinic.co.uk

The Right to Informed Consent

No treatment will be initiated without your informed consent. Before your first prescription is issued, you will be sent a consent form setting out your treatment, the medicines involved, the monitoring requirements, and the risks and benefits as they apply to you. You must read and sign this before treatment begins.

You have the right to take time to consider your options before signing. If you have questions about anything in your consent form, contact your prescriber before signing.

The Right to a Chaperone

You have the right to have a chaperone present at any consultation. If you would like someone to join your video call, please let us know in advance. Your chaperone must be visible on screen and you must confirm their presence at the start of the call.

The Right to Access Your Records

You have the right to access the personal data and clinical records we hold about you. To request a copy, submit a Subject Access Request (SAR) by emailing bookings@bodycompositionclinic.co.uk with the subject line ‘Subject Access Request’ and your full name and date of birth.

We will respond within one calendar month in accordance with UK GDPR. For more details, please read our Subject Access Request Policy.

The Right to Data Protection

Your personal and clinical data is held securely in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We do not share your information with third parties without your consent, except where required by law or where it is necessary for your clinical care — such as sharing with our pharmacy partner to dispense your prescription, or with our testing partner to process your blood tests.

For full details of how we handle your data, refer to our Privacy Policy.

The Right to Make a Complaint

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your care or our service, you have the right to make a complaint. We take all complaints seriously and are committed to investigating them fairly and transparently.

  • Email your complaint to leadprescriber@bodycompositionclinic.co.uk.
  • We will acknowledge your complaint within 3 working days
  • We aim to provide a full response within 20 working days
  • You will be informed of the outcome and any action taken

If your complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction through our internal process, you have the right to the General Pharmaceutical Council (pharmacyregulation.org).

For our full complaints procedure, see the Complaints Policy.

The Right to Equality and Dignity

You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect at all times, and to receive care that is free from discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic. If you feel you have been treated unfairly or without dignity, please raise it with us through our complaints process.

Your Obligations

To receive safe and effective care at BCC, you are responsible for the following throughout your treatment.

  • Provide accurate and complete information at all times — in your intake form, during consultations, and in any communications with the clinic.
  • Read all materials sent to you by email, including your pre-care and aftercare information, so you understand what’s expected of you at each stage of your treatment.
  • Complete all required submissions on time — including your evidence uploads, blood pressure and (where applicable) blood glucose readings, weight video, and pregnancy test photo. Your prescription cannot be issued until everything has been reviewed.
  • Attend all scheduled consultations, and let us know as early as possible if you’re unable to make an appointment.
  • Complete your blood tests as required — at intake, and every three months throughout your treatment, or more frequently if your prescriber determines this is clinically necessary.
  • Inform your prescriber promptly of any new medications, new diagnoses, side effects, or changes in your health — do not wait for your next scheduled consultation if something concerns you.
  • Use effective contraception throughout treatment, if you are a woman of childbearing potential, and submit your pregnancy test results as required.
  • Keep up with your payments — your care continues for as long as you choose to pay for it; treatment cannot proceed without payment being up to date.
  • Dispose of used sharps safely in your sharps bin, and arrange collection through your local council once it’s full.
